A Case of Stomach Cancer in Acromegaly

Abstract
|
|
|
Acromegaly is a rare disease characterized by an increases growth of bone and soft tissue of the extremities, as well as an increase in the size of the visceral organs due to an increases secretion of growth hormone.
A prospective study identified an increases incidence of colonic polyps in acromegaly patients, raising the concern that these patients may be at increased risk for development of colon cancer. Other studies have suggested an increased incidence
of
gastrointestinal malignancies in acromegalies.
We report a case of stomach cancer accompanying acromegaly, suggesting the possible carcinogenicrole of growth hormone. And we believe this is the first case in Korean literature.
